Wallace Hospital is a detached purpose-built building with its own gardens. The independent hospital is situated on the first floor and is split into two areas:

  • Seven en-suite bedrooms with access to a number of good sized living areas to choose from, including two lounges, a dining room and a life skills kitchen for people wanting to prepare or cook food for themselves or their visitors.
  • Three enhanced support suites for those who may find it difficult to interact or live with others in close proximity. Each apartment has its own living space, kitchenette and bathroom.

Within the grounds of Wallace Hospital is a separate building, Corbet Lodge, where people can enjoy a range of creative table top crafts and games, whilst also learning some valuable independent living skills. This area is dedicated to activities and supporting life skills in readiness for moving on.

Wallace Hospital is located in the city of Dundee, which has an extensive array of community amenities for people to access, including leisure centres, social clubs, shops, colleges, and work placement settings. Service users can also enjoy walks and visits to the nearby botanical gardens and Discovery Quay.

Wallace Hospital has a dedicated Activity Coordinator who supports service users to have individual activity plans, which are created based on each person’s likes and hobbies. Their goal is to enable people to structure their time, build relationships and establish a balance between therapy, self-care, work and leisure, as appropriate to their individual needs.

People come to Wallace Hospital from a home environment, supported living or residential service due to an illness or a crisis in their life. They may also come following a stay at an NHS or other specialist learning disability service, including a secure service.

Based on the ground floor of Wallace Hospital is Thistle Care Home. This new care home with nursing service has been created to provide a less restrictive community service with the unique advantage of being a nurse led step down service.
